DDM TUNING SABERLED PROX 65W

DDM Tuning recently launched their SaberLED Prox 65W, and we were eager to put them to the test. We were thrilled with the results!

These are the brightest LEDs we have tested so far, producing over 1600 lux in the low beam at 25 feet, which is more than four times brighter than the average output. The high-beam setting also performed admirably, producing 2087 lux at the same distance. These LEDs performed exceptionally well in our various reflector headlight modules, making them a versatile choice.

At 5800 lumens per LED/side and 11,600 lumens total, these LEDs provided consistent brightness. DDM claims they produce 14,000 lumens, but their advertised output is only slightly higher than our measured values, which is a significant improvement over many inflated Amazon listings.

The color temperature of these LEDs was a crisp white 6100k, which is similar to daylight color, and they are not too blue like some other LEDs. This makes them suitable for use in all weather conditions.

Beam quality was excellent in our selective reflector, and the default setting should work well for most applications. However, we recommend checking your beam to avoid any unwanted glare.

If you are in the market for high-quality LED lights and can afford it, the SaberLED Prox 65W is an excellent choice, particularly for reflector-style headlights. Additionally, they offer 6000k (white) and 3000k (yellow) options for fog-light applications. The container quality was on par with Diode Dynamics, which is known for its metal-based, high-quality products. We highly recommend them, and you can purchase them from BRI Source, which offers free Priority Shipping.

BEST FEATURE: Extreme distance & Output

  • 7.1 Star Overall Rating (for Reflector Headlights)
  • +333% Additional Low-Beam Light (1614 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 373 for Halogen)
  • 11,600 Total Lumens/kit (vs 3128 for Halogen)
  • 6100k Color Temperature (pure white, blue hint) vs 3400k for Halogen (very yellow)

Cougar Motor Flagship LED

The Best budget (Under $49) LED Kit for reflectors

Best for Reflector Style Headlights

Cougar Motor Flagship

The Cougar Motor Flagship LED's are designed with the popular F2 container style, which provides optimal brightness with an accurate beam and exceptional output. This premium quality is often associated with higher-priced products, but these LEDs offer remarkable performance at an affordable cost.

While they don't specify the model of diodes used, these LEDs are incredibly bright and provide over 2.5 times more light output and distance than halogen bulbs.

The lifespan of these LEDs is average for an LED but above average for a budget LED. They can run for up to 3600 hours at 75% of their output, with an extended runtime of approximately 5400 hours at 50% of their output before they abruptly burn out.

Overall, this is an excellent set of LEDs that offer exceptional value for their price. It is worth noting, however, that they only come with a one-year warranty, which is standard for budget-class LEDs.

BEST FEATURE: Amazing Distance for a budget LED kit

  • 4.3 Star Overall Rating (for Reflector Headlights)
  • +164% Additional Low-Beam Light (986 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 373 for Halogen)

Hikari 2023 LEDs

The #1 top performing LED Kit for Projectors

Best for Projector Style Headlights

HIKARI 2023 FUTURE LEDs

The Hikari LEDs are a game-changer when it comes to performance in a halogen projector. They deliver an astonishing output of over 3 times that of halogen bulbs, which is a remarkable achievement for an LED. The innovative handle design that protrudes on one side is responsible for this breakthrough, as it directs light more efficiently in the right direction.

The only downside to these LEDs is their color temperature, which is not ideal at almost 7000k. However, they still produce a predominantly white light with a hint of blue. If you prefer a lower "white" color temperature, DDM Tuning SaberLED ProX V2's offer a warmer option, making them a great alternative.

The beam pattern in our projectors was exceptional, with minimal lower dark center, a common issue with many LEDs. The hotspot was remarkably bright, while the cut-off was still good, enabling you to see at a considerable distance.

Overall, we highly recommend the Hikari LEDs for your projector application. Just bear in mind that they only come with a limited one-year warranty.

BEST FEATURE: Extreme distance

  • 7.0 Star Overall Rating (for Projector Headlights)
  • +231% Additional Low-Beam Light (762 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 230 for Halogen)
  • 12,486 Total Lumens/kit (vs 3128 for Halogen)

Aukee LED

The Best budget (Under $49) LED Kit For Projectors

Best for Projector Style Headlights

Aukee LEDs

The Aukee LEDs offer an affordable and effective upgrade to your halogen projector. With an output that ranks among the best in the budget category of LEDs, these bulbs provide a significant improvement in brightness. The beam pattern is impressive too, featuring a great hotspot and an even spread. Although there is a noticeable center cut, it does not affect the quality of the beam.

However, the color temperature of these LEDs is a little bluer than we would prefer, with a rating of 6800k. While this is subjective, it may not be to everyone's liking. If you're after a warmer color, we would have recommended the Novsight LEDs, but they didn't last long in our lifespan test. Therefore, the Aukee LEDs take the top spot in this budget category.

At under $50, these LEDs are an excellent choice for those on a budget looking for a quick and easy upgrade from halogen bulbs. They have proven to be reliable in our lifespan tests, so you should get plenty of use out of them. Overall, the Aukee LEDs are a great choice for anyone looking to upgrade their halogen projector without breaking the bank.

BEST FEATURE: Amazing Distance for a budget LED kit

  • 4.5 Star Overall Rating  (for Projector Headlights)
  • +143% Additional Low-Beam Light (560 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 230 for Halogen)

GTR Lighting Ultra Series 2

If you're looking for an LED that will last for years to come, the GTR Ultra 2's are the way to go. After testing them for over a year, running them continuously for 20 hours a day with intermittent breaks, we can confidently say they are the best choice for longevity. We tested other flagship LEDs from Morimoto, DDM, and SV4, but none of them performed as well as the GTRs.

One of the best things about the GTR Ultra 2's is that they come with a lifetime warranty. GTR Lighting stands behind their product, and for good reason - these LEDs will likely outlast the vehicle they're installed in.

Although the Ultra 2's aren't the brightest LEDs on the market, they still offer impressive performance while providing unparalleled longevity. If you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time, the GTR Lighting Ultra 2's are definitely worth considering.

DRL Compatible LED Kits

Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 LEDs

The Best LED for a True Compatible DRL

Best for ANY Daytime Running Light (DRL)

Morimoto 2STroke 3.0

The Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 LEDs were designed with a key factor in mind: full compatibility with any DRL. This is a rare feat for an LED, as most either flicker rapidly, run at full brightness, or not function at all in a DRL. However, the 2Stroke 3.0s have solved this issue by detecting a lower voltage signal and reducing their brightness to 30%. This feature, known as 'DRL Drive', worked flawlessly during our tests.

In addition to their compatibility with DRLs, the 2Stroke 3.0s boast a number of other great benefits. They produce a desirable color output of 5300k, offer a perfect beam in a reflector, and have a unique heat dissipation system that retains heat inside the headlight, similar to a halogen bulb. This makes them ideal for use in inclement weather conditions.

The 2Stroke 3.0s are also incredibly high quality and very bright, with a 174% increase in reflector brightness and a 37% increase in projector brightness. While they may not be the absolute brightest LEDs available, they are the perfect choice if you need a compatible DRL LED for either your low or high beam. We highly recommend the Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0s for their quality, reliability, and impressive performance.

BEST FEATURE: DRL Drive + Perfect beam pattern in a reflector, nice white color

  • 4.1 Star Overall Rating (for Headlight Reflectors)
  • +174% Additional Low-Beam Reflector Light (1022 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 373 for Halogen)
  • 4050 Total Lumens/kit (vs 3128 for Halogen)

Philips Ultinon Pro9000 HL

The #1 Pick for a Pure White LED (5000k)

Best for ANY Style Headlight or Fog-Light

Philips Ultinon Pro9000 HL

The Pro9000 (and Pro5000) LEDs from Philips are the successor to the oldeThe Philips Pro9000 and Pro5000 LEDs are the successors to the older Ultinon Gen 1 and Gen 2 LEDs. These LEDs are rated at 5800k by Philips, but we found them to be pure white at 5000k with minimal blue or yellow tones. The beam pattern is absolutely perfect, making these LEDs a great choice for anyone looking to upgrade their headlights. r Ultinon Gen 1 and Gen2.

Despite not being the brightest option, these LEDs have a good output, providing a 140% increase in output for reflector headlights and a 78% increase for projector headlights (Pro9000). Additionally, they are lightweight and of extremely high quality, as expected from a Philips product.

One of the major concerns with aftermarket LEDs is their lifespan, as some cheaper options tend to fail much sooner than OE products. However, Philips offers a 5-year guarantee for the Pro9000 and Pro5000 LEDs, with an expected lifespan closer to 10 years depending on use. We expect these LEDs to last the life of your vehicle due to their high quality and reputation as a major brand.

Although the sizes of the Philips LEDs are limited, we highly recommend them if beam pattern is your main focus, especially in reflector headlights. Be careful when choosing between headlight and fog-light specific models, as they have similar packaging but different outputs (the headlight model has a higher output than the fog-light model).

BEST FEATURE: Perfect beam pattern in a reflector, pure white color

  • 4.1 Star Overall Rating (for Headlight Reflectors)
  • +140% Additional Low-Beam Reflector Light (894 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 373 for Halogen)
  • 3884 Total Lumens/kit (vs 3128 for Halogen)

DDM Tuning SaberLED ProX 55W Accu/V2

The #1 Pick for a Warm White LED (4500k)

Best for ANY Style Headlight or Fog-Light

DDM Tuning SaberLED ProX 55W Accu/V2 (4500k model)

DDM Tuning's new 4500k color option for their premium LED is a game-changer for those looking for a warm white color in LED form. This is a unique and welcome feature, as other premium LEDs only offer cooler color temperatures.

While the beam quality is good, it's always recommended to check the beam when installing any aftermarket product, including LEDs.

The DDM Tuning LEDs have garnered attention for their excellent performance in a variety of applications such as reflectors, projectors, and fog lights.

In our full review, we found that the output of the 4500k variant was comparable to the 6000k version. Highly recommended if you're in search of an LED that mimics the warm white look of a halogen bulb while delivering significantly higher output than any halogen bulb could.

BEST FEATURE: 4500k Warm White Color Output + Extreme distance/output

  • 5.8 Star Overall Rating (for Reflector Headlights)
  • +245% Additional Low-Beam Light (1288 Peak Hotspot/Distance vs 373 for Halogen)

Formula J87 G8 LED

Budget Option For a Warm White LED (4500k)

Best for ANY Style Headlight or Fog-Light

Formula J87 G8

The Formula J87 G8's surprised us with their exceptional performance during testing. One of their standout features is the perfect color temperature of 4450k, which closely resembles that of an OEM Xenon bulb (usually around 4300k). This makes them a great option for drivers looking for better visibility in inclement weather conditions such as snow, rain, or sleet, as bluish LEDs tend to fall short in these situations.

In terms of brightness, the G8's may not be the brightest option on the market, but they are certainly a cost-effective choice. Additionally, their warm color temperature makes them ideal for drivers who want to maintain a more subtle and understated appearance, rather than standing out with brighter, cooler-toned LEDs. Overall, we highly recommend the Formula J87 G8's for those seeking a high-performing, cost-effective LED with a warm, OEM-like color temperature.

BEST FEATURE: Best Color Temperature for inclement weather

  • 3.8 Star Overall Rating (for Reflector Headlights)
  • +121% Additional Low-Beam Light in Reflectors
  • 6150 Total Lumens/kit (vs 3128 for Halogen)
  • 4450k Color Temperature (pure white, no blue) vs 3400k for Halogen (very yellow)
